Samsung 32-Inch UJ59 4K Monitor — Best Budget Monitor for Immersive Viewing

It's available in sizes as small as 14 inches for secondary displays and up to 34 inches for a main screen. The included stand  has a tablet mode, making it easier to use a stylus for drawing, digital painting, and modeling. The Samsung ViewFinity S9 has been designed from the beginning to be a direct competitor and alternative to the Apple Studio Display. For a similar price, you get the same 5K resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, color accuracy, and screen size. But the matte screen and adjustable stand are included rather than being expensive extras. The 27-inch 4K UHD IPS display is factory-calibrated for color accuracy, ensuring that what you see on screen is what you get in the final output.

Looking at the Pro Display XDR, you’ll immediately notice the monitor’s jaw-dropping vibrance and detail. With a 6K screen, this monitor is incredibly pixel rich, sporting a resolution that would have sounded like fiction a few years ago. That resolution is put to good use, with exceptional brightness and precise local dimming, for one of the highest contrast HDR experiences around (Apple likes to call it XDR).

This is crucial for professionals who can’t afford any color discrepancies in their work. The LG 24UD58-B is a tool for every graphic designer, illustrator, and visual artist. Still, the LG 27UL850 4K UHD HDR display, exceptional color accuracy, and USB Type-C connectivity make it a formidable tool for bringing your creative projects to life. Whether you’re editing photos, designing graphics, or simply appreciating its clarity, the LG 27UL850 will undoubtedly elevate your creative endeavours.

The extremely popular Dell UltraSharp UP2716D is a 27″ IPS Monitor that comes at a very reasonable price, given its high quality. It has a WQHD Resolution which is good for a 27″  Monitor when you plan on displaying lots of Software GUI from Premiere Pro, After Effects, 3D Animation Software, or other DCC Software on it. Now that we have had quite an in-depth look at the most important features a great Monitor for Graphic Design, Video Editing, 3D Animation, and other creative tasks should have, let’s do a quick summary. A 24” lower quality Monitor for your Software Interface and a 27” Monitor with great color and contrast is quite a popular setup. The higher the refresh rate of a Monitor the more individual Images per second it can display. This means, when it’s dark the pupils dilate, letting more light onto your retina and you will need less brightness on your Monitor.

The best monitors for designers at a glance

And, you won’t have to squint and crane your neck forward when working with small details. Graphic designers need to have high standards for their monitors in order to produce quality work. There are gaming monitors, such as the Asus ROG Strix XG27UQ, that feature highly color-accurate panels while also delivering a high refresh rate and low input response. Although the ViewSonic VP3881 is the most expensive monitor on this list by far, it’s reasonable considering the features and size. Most 38-inch ultrawides are already around $1,000, and none of them are nearly as color accurate as the VP3881. For connectivity, the U2720Q features a DisplayPort 1.4 connection, an HDMI 2.0 port, and a USB-C port.

LCD monitors selectively block and transmit light through a liquid crystal layer to reproduce color on the screen. More monitor choices with prices and wider designer field use will be presented in our next article. If you’re looking for a 4K monitor on a budget, there are 24″ options, such as LG 24UD58-B.

A high-quality monitor is vital for any aspiring or experienced graphic designer. Whether you’re an amateur or a professional, your computer monitor is an important tool. This monitor offers photographers and graphic designers incredible image detail. However, no one but real professionals will be able to tell the difference when looking at a monitor’s accurate color reproduction. We’ve put together this list of the ten best monitors for graphic design to help you find your perfect fit.

One thing that disappointed us with the specs is that the resolution is somewhat smaller than most monitors with a lower color range, sitting at 1920×1200 pixels. We’re guessing this is because a higher resolution, combined with the rest of the specs, would bump the price a fair bit. Though the colors are accurate, the lack of brightness will result in less punchy colors, especially in brighter rooms.

If you want to work on 4K video with zero lag on a 4K monitor, it will be important that the hardware and ports you use to connect that monitor are top quality as well. If you use USB-C, consider checking whether your computer has a Thunderbolt port or one of the newest USB-C standards. Some will also want extra ports on their monitor or the potential to daisy-chain other devices, so consider these needs before you buy. Finding the correct, comfortable position while you work, and changing it as necessary, is critical to avoiding back and neck pain. The option to pivot this monitor 90 degrees to work on projects vertically may also be helpful. If you work as a graphic designer by day but play games at night, ViewSonic’s ELITE XG320U is the ideal choice.

However, you should also opt for an in-plane switching (IPS) display, as this gives you superior color reproduction and deeper shading. You have extensive connectivity with HDMI ports, an earphone jack, and four USB 3.0 ports. This screen is also free from blue light and flicker, plus the almost bezel-less design gives you a greater area to work with. This monitor syncs with NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ and matches every frame from your graphics card plus, you can have multiple windows open simultaneously, eliminating the need for dual monitor setups. Overall, stone is an excellent choice for building a house as it offers many advantages over other materials and can last for centuries with proper maintenance. To make sure that everything is going as planned and that your project stays on track, it is important to work with a builder who has experience constructing stone houses. With their help and knowledge, they can provide an accurate timeline for completion so you know when your house will be finished. Stones are porous, and this makes them prone to water absorption leading to problems such as mold growth or moss buildup on the walls. When properly built and maintained, stone houses can have enormous resale value due to their timeless look and superior durability. This makes them an excellent long-term investment for those looking to build a house that will retain its value over time.

Many reasons affect the purchase of a home, but the exterior is one of the most important ones.

The downside with onyx masonry siding is that it’s rare and so very hard to find. With incredibly limited availability, it is very expensive to have (even the most expensive natural stone option!). Manufactured stones, on the other hand, are when several aspects of natural stones are improved and empowered to be a better material. Here are the advantages and disadvantages you can weigh to help you decide. Though it has downsides, vinyl stone siding is an excellent cost-saving option for replicating the appearance of exterior stone siding. There are many more varieties of styles and colors for manufactured stone veneer designed to look like naturally occurring stones.

How To Choose Exterior House Siding?

There are so many different types of stone to consider that it really makes sense to do your homework. Selecting the right solid stone siding for your home’s exterior depends on your desired style, climate, and maintenance preferences. Each type brings its own unique character and durability, making it essential to consider these factors when making your choice. Essentially, you will need most of the construction materials for building a house and some materials and equipment unique to stone house building. Now that you know what it takes and the processes involved in building a stone house, the next step is to get your materials ready and get to work.

Whether used in a traditional farmhouse and cottage-syle homes or as accents in a contemporary setting, fieldstone adds a touch of history and authenticity to your exterior. With a wide range of colors, from pristine whites and soft grays to bold blues and vibrant oranges, it provides a versatile palette for modern architectural designs.

It enhances value, ensures long-term durability, and contributes to improved energy efficiency, making it a practical and aesthetically pleasing choice for homeowners. Opting for slate as the exterior cladding for your house is a choice that blends rustic charm with exceptional durability. Slate is probably most often thought of as a roofing product but lots of great slate products exist for cladding applications as well. One of the most enticing aspects of sandstone is its aesthetic versatility. Available in shades of warm beige, golden yellow, red, and even cool grays, sandstone complements a wide range of architectural styles.

Ledgerstone is another option you can use for your exterior wall cladding and it showcases rustic appeal for any home it’s installed in. It has this three-dimensional look that features an appealing texture that can be a good addition to your home. The major downside of limestone though is that since it’s extremely porous, it is highly susceptible to stains and scratches. Be careful of these kinds of damages and make sure you properly care for them so that they can last for many years. The kitchen functions as the heart of both everyday life and social occasions. The freestanding limestone wall bisects the bedroom wing and the kitchen, creating a scene for entertaining while concealing the storage with carefully detailed white oak cubbies.

Stone is a natural material, and it is best to design your stone house to fit the surrounding environment. A natural environment can make your home very beautiful if it is in sync with the design of your stone house. To give you a list of choices to choose from, here are the most popular exterior masonry veneer cladding brands that are worth exploring and checking out. So if you have enough budget in your hands, treat this more as an investment that you can enjoy for a lifetime – that’s how long most natural masonry sidings last. If you choose natural brick masonry wall veneer, you can benefit from its durability and timeless aesthetics. It can also help lower utility bills by assisting in insulating the structure. The downside though is that the installation cost may be high and the mortar is expected to wear over time. Water damage and issues are also prominent and weather elements can affect the bricks over time. More than just the materials used, the types of masonry sidings to consider, and the costs that come with them, you may also want to skim through some ideas worth checking out.

The 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time

With the ongoing energy crunch, a lot of folks might object to dense stone because it’s not considered a good insulative material. But–at least in moderate climates–rock walls will actually help keep you comfortable; they slowly heat during the day, then radiate warmth through much of a cool evening. The night-chilled walls will also cool the structure’s interior well into the following day. Natural stone comes in so many shapes, sizes, colors, and textures that the final appearance of a rock house is limited only by the builder’s imagination, daring, and methodical effort. While our house was constructed rather simply to save time, money, and labor, we’ve seen veritable castles of colorful stonework all over the country.

Depending on the type of stone used, materials cost between $25 and $80 per square foot and labor costs range between $15 and $30 per square foot of material. Generally speaking a structural stone home will cost well over $300,000 to build if materials are bought and installed by professional stonemasons. Stone siding panels can either be natural or manufactured and they include thin sheets of stones you can install on the exterior of your home. In updating the exterior of your home using stone sidings, there are several choices that are worth exploring. You can cover the entire exterior wall of your home, half of its facade, or choose an accent wall to focus on. Sandstone is the ideal option for homeowners who want to customize the siding of their home’s exterior to the appearance they want it to have. In customizing sandstone, you can make it into any pattern you wish for the stone to have. And since this type of stone is reflective, the tones and shades of the colors may change as the sun moves along the sky throughout the day.

Once you are done, install the doors and windows before working on the interiors. Opting for stone on the exterior of a home is a practical choice celebrated for its low maintenance requirements. Stone cladding is renowned for its durability and ages gracefully and while a stone exterior will require more maintenance than stucco or vinyl siding it is still considered a low maintenance material. Travertine’s most captivating feature lies in its porous surface, which gives it a unique, textured appearance. The natural pits and troughs that adorn each stone add depth and individuality to the exterior, making it an artistic statement of nature’s craftsmanship. Its soft, earthy hues of beige, cream, and ivory harmonize effortlessly with various architectural styles, from Mediterranean villas to contemporary designs.

While mostly used for masonrysiding, it may also be used for wall cladding if you need to. The cost of building a stone house will depend on the size, style and design of the house, as well as the price of materials and labor required. Generally speaking, building a stone house can be more expensive than constructing traditional timber frame houses but the increased durability may make up for the initial cost in time.

In addition to complicated installation, mining, producing, and transporting natural stone exteriors make them the most expensive option we’ll review. Building a stone house requires careful planning, craftsmanship, and patience.

Regarding natural stone options, onyx, marble, and slate can be more expensive than other authentic stone options. Natural stone siding is considerably more expensive than manufactured ones. Manufactured or faux stone siding panels are significantly lighter and more durable than their authentic counterpart.

Waxed steel binds the stone with the millwork to create a cohesive element. Faux stone options for the exterior are usually the most cost-effective option. Castle stones are large, squared stones with a smooth finish stacked tightly together. Jagged in shape with varying depths, manufactured ledgestone is horizontally stacked. Ledgestone can come in varying colors for a rustic appearance or in subtle stones for a smooth, contemporary look. The pieces are so lightweight they can provide more dimension and depth to the finish at a lower cost.

This is the reason why it’s important to take into account your house design before making a final choice on the masonrywall veneer you’ll install on your home’s exterior. If you have a limited budget, natural masonry wall cladding may be out of your reach. However, there are still manufactured and faux masonry sidings you can consider that may not be authentic stones but feature similar aesthetics at an affordable price.

12 Interior Design Trends Well See In 2024

2024 home design trends

It’s that time of the year when everyone is releasing their 2024 home design predictions — and these prognosticators may or may not be right. That’s because Houzz has 65 million homeowners and design enthusiasts in its community, along with 3 million residential construction and design professionals. While designers and homeowners have been open to more intentional sustainable choices, next year will become an overarching goal. Here, designer Katie Rosenfeld painted the trim and ceiling in Setting Plaster by Farrow & Ball, what she calls a nude pinky tone to offset the browns and olives in this bathroom's Michael S. Smith wallpaper. Here, a mirrored dining table anchors a dining room in the home of AD100 designer Oliver M. Furth and his partner Sean Yashar. Alyse Archer-Coité decorated this colorful corner of her Dutch Colonial house with antique furniture, ceramics from her travels, and other found objects.

“In furniture trends and shopping,” says Anthony Barzilay Freund, editorial director and director of fine art at 1stDibs. Large expanses of glass that enclose apartments in contemporary high-rises can be a headache when deciding how best to lay out a space. This means that the prevailing layouts of the past two decades for social spaces are being reconsidered. In the kitchen, “I see less and less desire for island dining, but that means we have to think carefully about the size and adjacency of daily dining spaces,” Sass says. “Sofas in kitchens are a fun new twist that we are proposing more often.” Although keeping cooking and dining areas flowing is still appealing, especially for young families, White Arrow cofounder Keren Richter is observing more walled-off living rooms. “I’m less convinced that watching movies or TV happens in the same location as food prep,” says the Brooklyn-based designer.

That’s So Metal

Instead of moving away from the neighborhood they had come to admire, the couple decided to expand their narrow, two-story home in order to make room for their two growing children. "We were very much motivated to find a way to stay in this neighborhood," explains architect Aniket Shahane. Parker recommends a utility sink to soak dirty clothes or delicates, and a pull-down faucet to rinse muddy footwear. “Also, a bench makes it easy to take off and stores shoes and boots, while cabinets, hooks, and cubbies provide practical storage solutions,” he says.

Sleek, Modern Kitchens

Two-tone bouclé alongside “supersoft, comfy, and durable” fabrics like chenille are the future, says the designer, who is also fond of matelassé. Thanks to historic homes, which typically have a larger number of small rooms, the 2000s approach of demolishing all the internal walls has been ditched in favor of creating a good flow between separated spaces. “I embrace the quirks when I can and use them to my advantage as highlights,” Romanek says. Since many older buildings have been extended and replanned multiple times over the decades, Sass recommends combining styles and trends from their different eras to achieve more complex, interesting, and authentic layouts. “If I had my way, I’d be steering everyone towards more eclectic floor plans that reference multiple time periods,” she reveals. Using too much of one color, such as gray, can create spaces that feel cold and lifeless.

“However, you’ll feel like you’re getting a warm hug walking into the space, as these warm neutrals create a cozy feeling — and cozy is in for 2024,” she says. In Milan, Salone del Mobile—the world’s biggest design trade fair—and the city’s broader design week, provides the perfect moment to take a trends temperature check. In fact, ELLE DECOR editors fanned out across the Italian design capital to take stock of what’s new and what trends seem to have staying power.

Landolfo is hoping to give new life to 1950s apartments in the city, like the one he renovated for his family. "That’s what I want to be doing—thinking about that one final ride into the sunset for these homes." There’s no doubt that the climate crisis will have a profound effect on our future cities—and Landolfo believes that we will begin to witness the retaking of abandoned areas of city’s to combat unnecessary demolition and construction.

"We’re increasingly seeing clients eager to explore alternative modes of living that depart from the single housing typology," he says. "There is a world of possibilities and design opportunities that are there to be explored when we rethink how we live and what home means to us." "I love a fluted surface as much as the next person, but there has been a tendency within the last couple of years to apply fluting to everything— fluted joinery, walls, light fittings, furniture… the list goes on," says Samuels.

"I can’t get into the eyeball dopamine of a ripple used without serious consideration." "A thought going around that I feel personally connected to is revisiting the ‘as found’ concept," says Argentinian architect Hernan Landolfo, founder of Landolfo & Asociados. "It’s a concept that could be particularly handy in Argentina, which is a place of constant economic crisis." A big part of that concept is rediscovering overlooked parts of the city, he says. "I’m interested in a city that is suspended in time—a Buenos Aires with houses that were built in the mid ’50s, smaller worker houses, propiedades horizontales… Most of my work is done in this area and this is the case for many architects of my generation." Architect William Samuels’s tiny home in Todds Valley, New Zealand, is a prefab structure clad in a corrugated iron shell coated with Zincalume. The home is located on rented land and is designed to be moved and expanded as needed—a response to the rising cost of living.

Innovative Materials

Through rough forms and rustic, handcrafted objects connected to ceremony, history and travels far and wide, 2024 interior design trends will see many embrace a more slow, mindful and ritualistic life. The beauty of natural materials such as travertine and decorating with marble is undeniably timeless. Most commonly used for bathroom ideas and kitchen ideas, 2024 will see statement stoneware used across the home, from sculptural stone side tables in a bedroom to a stand-out marble fireplace in a living room. The extensive use of gray and beige was amongst some of the worst trends last year and one of the interior design trends we are quiet-quitting for 2024. However, Mitchell Parker, Houzz home design expert, tells me that designers on Houzz are visually breaking up those expanses of tile.

Creating dedicated spaces for Zoom calls—and for disconnecting after logging off them—required a substantial rejiggering of existing layouts. “I’ve worked on dining rooms becoming offices, offices becoming wellness rooms, bathtubs put on balconies,” continues Romanek. Particularly in the warmer climes of California, Texas, or Florida, where many people relocated over the past three years, outdoor rooms are in high demand, she notes. While annual trends are often counted up as decorative and aesthetic movements, 2024 looks as if it’s going to be less concerned with looks—or at least more interested in defining good ones based on the origins of the source materials. When we asked these leading designers to share their thoughts on where things are headed for our homes, resoundingly, the answer was toward something more sustainable, with a focus on adaptive reuse and natural materials. Sustainable interior design is now more important than ever, and brands, designers and consumers alike are united in producing and consuming products that are better for the environment.

“A historic fabric house came up with this contemporary pattern infused with an almost fluorescent tonality,” Lonstein marvels. The designs are a far cry from the delicate microflorals that made the iconic British brand’s name. Rowhouses, or townhomes, are a major part of the fabric of many great cities, and Shahane hopes to see more creative reuse of the ubiquitous building typology. "I’m hoping more people will see the value in converting these buildings into not only houses, but also other things—libraries, schools, bakeries, stores, work spaces... all the things that make a city."

"This is an exciting prospect, as it requires innovative thinking and considered approaches to design challenges, with projects needing to resolve them through careful thinking rather than wasteful spending." The pandemic has had a lasting impact on the construction industry with significant rises in material and labor costs, and as budgets become increasingly difficult to align with briefs, architects need to reassess how to get the best outcomes from projects. Designed by Atelier Lina Bellovicova, House LO marks the first residential project in the Czech Republic to use hempcrete, a sustainable and fire- and mold-resistant material. Mixing metals is often a key feature of industrial decor, but it can be done more subtly too, as shown by the contrasting mixed metals used across the fixtures and fittings in this elegant, neutral bathroom. From Renew Blue by Valspar to Blue Nova by Benjamin Moore, many of our favorite paint brands have picked beautiful blue shades to be their 2024 Colors of The Year.

Rooted in simplicity and elevated by extraordinary beauty, interiors by Dallas-based Urbanology Designs bring organic luxury to life. Their soft, modern approach allows clients to relax in the warmth of a comfortable and crafted home. Their design-forward sensibility looks beyond today’s times, trends, and whims to create homes with longevity and intention. Whether it’s driven by aesthetics or as a byproduct of maintaining on-site drainage, Parker says there’s increased interest in greenery tucked between pavers. “Garden paths and patios made of pavers separated by ground cover have gained popularity on Houzz due to their natural look, permeability, and design versatility.” It’s a design trend that certainly adds interest to any outdoor space. “This approach softens pathways, breaks up large expanses of hardscape, and generally makes a walkway or patio feel more like a lush, living part of a garden,” he says.

In this bedroom, she chose a Chesterfield-styled headboard in Chartreuse against a navy blue wall to showcase the elegance of the hue. If you're not sure if the color you chose is chartreuse, she notes, "There is a fine line between an acid green and day glow; neon is best kept for nightclubs." Often ignored but frequently used, your stairway is the perfect place to hint at the beauty to come within your home. Take note of this stairway designed by Andre Hilton of Jordan Hilton Interiors that adds intrigue to the walls. “The job was delayed for five weeks because the road completely washed away and there was no access to the house at all,” Miles recalls. Once she and the contractors did get back on-site, it was still so persistently wet that they had to make a Home Depot run for dehumidifiers just to install the wood flooring.

Dan Mazzarini is an award-winning interior designer, principal director at BHDM Design and founder of Archive by Dan Mazzarini. With an extensive portfolio of residential projects across the US, Dan has also worked with several renowned brands such as the Harvard Club of New York, Google, Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade, and Calvin Klein. Some colors may increase your home’s selling price, but always expect to see blue in any reputable color collection. In fact, Parker says many paint companies are choosing blue as the color of 2024. “Whether it’s a sky-inspired hue or a deep watery color, look for an array of blues to be featured more prominently in decorative materials and housewares in the coming year,” he says.

Did House Of The Dragon Stars Just Debunk A Gruesome Fan Theory About The Greens In Season 2?

house targaryen

Finally, aided by the former Kingsguard Ser Barristan Selmy, she conquered the slave cities of Slaver's Bay and declared herself Queen of Meereen, vowing to stay and learn how to rule. Her ambition remains to return to Westeros and retake her father's throne. After the death of his wife during childbirth, Viserys remarries and has a son with Rhaenyra’s best friend, Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey, then Olivia Cooke).

Maester Aemon

However, not infrequently, the one he winds up butting heads with is Rhaenyra herself. Rhaena Targaryen (Eva Ossai-Gerning, and then Phoebe Campbell) is the younger sister of Baela. Though she was given a dragon egg at birth, her egg never hatched. Baela is caught putting her egg in the fire in hopes that it will eventually produce a dragon. In order to become a dragonrider Rhaena will likely have to claim a dragon for herself, a harder task than simply bonding with a dragon whose egg was gifted to her in childhood.

Jacaerys Velaryon

Loyal Targaryen retainers, namely Ser Willem Darry, took Daenerys and her brother Viserys into exile in the Free Cities, whilst Robert Baratheon was crowned King. Aegon's younger son Jaehaerys took the throne, but he was in a state of shock from the deaths of his father and brother and died prematurely just two years later. One century after the Targaryens arrived on Dragonstone, the Doom descended on Valyria and destroyed it, shattering the peninsular and devastating the Freehold. The empire collapsed, most of its dragons were slaughtered and the conquered vassal states became independent.

‘The Witcher’ to end with Season 5 on Netflix

The civil population of Westeros suffered a lot especially during the bloody conflicts between opposing branches of House Targaryen, like the Dance of the Dragons and the Blackfyre Rebellions. It was this third scene and the actors’ commentary that made me think of Fire & Blood and reader discourse during Season 1. But let's start at the beginning with the theory for some context.

Princess Rhaenys’ dragon is named Meleys, also known as the Red Queen. According to the books, Meleys was the dragon first ridden by Rhaenys’ aunt, Princess Alyssa Targaryen (King Viserys’ mother). Over the course of the series viewers could see up to 17 different dragons. As they are introduced, be sure to visit the Official Dragon Index for a quick look at which dragon is which.

On his deathbed, Aegon IV legitimized all his bastards, leading to more problems. Dorned swore to the Iron Throne after Maron Martell married Daenerys Targaryen, Daeron’s sister. Because Prince Baelor looked more like the Martells, the lords favored Daemon Blackfyre over him. When Daemon tried claiming the Iron Throne, the First Blackfyre Rebellion began and ended in Daemon and his sons’ deaths.

After the War, Aegon III became King, and his younger brother Viserys became the Hand of the King. Aegon IV was unhappy with his legitimate son, Daeron, considering him weak for he was more interested in wisdom gleaned from books and maesters rather than war and combat. He had married Daeron to Princess Myriah Martell of Dorne in an effort to entice Dorne into peacefully joining the Seven Kingdoms, but to his dismay his son seemed to take up Dornish ways instead.

Be sure to watch Season 2 of House of the Dragon when it premieres on HBO Max on June 16.

With help from his brother Maegor and supporters like Lord Goren Greyjoy and Lord Royce of Runestone, Aenys shut all opposition to his reign. Though most of his enemies were dead, the Vulture King, with an army of thirty thousand, and Harren the Red remained. Many marcher lords marched against the Vulture King and defeated him in battle.

During this Targaryen Civil War, George R.R. Martin killed off half the population of Westeros and, as noted previously, nearly every member of the blondest family. However, the HBO series has already tweaked parts of the book, so there’s no reason to believe that everything will go down as Martin wrote in the lore. Queen Alicent and Otto Hightower will definitely begin to see consequences of their long game, and Rhaenyra will be coming for the Iron Throne with Blood and Cheese (wait for them, oh boy) paving the way. With that said, this series has been plotted out for four seasons, and that plan could change, but it’s unlikely that we will see the entire war take place in Season 2.

Keep scrolling to find out more about the main characters and their relatives. From this time on, it is said that Aerys danced on the edge of madness. He alienated Tywin by going back on an agreement to marry his son Rhaegar to Tywin's daughter Cersei, instead wedding him to Princess Elia Martell of Dorne.

When he does finally name Rhaenyra as next in line for the throne, Rhaenyra faces skepticism from a kingdom that would prefer to see her half-brother as king than ever submit to a queen. Though she does not wish to marry, she eventually does wed Laenor Velaryon in order to create a strong alliance that will help her capture the throne. However, when the parentage of Rhaenyra’s sons comes into question, Alicent tries to undermine her old friend’s claim to be queen. In order to strengthen her claim to the throne, Rhaenyra plots to marry her uncle Daemon. They seem to share a mutual attraction and have become close over the years.

The tradition continued even after the last dragon’s death, and many attempts to hatch dragons failed till Daenerys Targaryen’s time. House Targaryen was among the forty dragonlords that ruled the Valyrian Freehold. Aegon IV was a reputable warrior, but after taking the throne he lost himself to vice, becoming grossly fat and interested in matters of the flesh.

The Targaryens, having left their ancestral home 12 years prior due to the prophetic dreams of Daenys Targaryen, were one of a handful of families who survived the Doom. They settled on Dragonstone, the westernmost point of the former Valyrian empire. Their mystique grew, their coffers swelled, and their control of the Iron Throne lasted for centuries. Many factors led to the downfall of this great house, and we're here to examine them. This is the story of the Targaryens, from the fires of old Valyria to the legacy of the Breaker of Chains.

Episodes

Raised by her father and stepmother Rhaenyra Targaryen in Dragonstone after her mother’s death. King Viserys Targaryen’s younger brother and presumptive heir — or so he believes. A formidable warrior, Prince Daemon serves as the commander of the City Watch of King’s Landing.

Game of Thrones: Every Major Character's First and Last Appearance

But Aemond gains a powerful weapon in the form of a new dragon for his mother’s side in the coming battle. Both before and after their relocation, the Targaryens were counted among the dragonlords, the forty or so powerful families who bred, raised and rode their own dragons and thus dominated Valyrian politics and culture. They were, however, never among the most powerful of those families. When the time came, the Targaryens ultimately assisted the Free Cities in asserting their continued independence and then proceeded to invade Westeros. In the Targaryen era there were periods of peace and prosperity during the reign of benevolent kings like Jaehaerys the Conciliator, but also periods of terror and distress when evil tyrants like Maegor the Cruel ruled.

Wiki of Westeros

Viserys marries his cousin Aemma (Sian Brooke), who gives birth to Rhaenyra Targaryen. In the first episode of House of the Dragon, Aemma dies in childbirth after Viserys cruelly forces her to have a C-section against her consent. Viserys is left with no obvious heir and eventually decides to name Rhaenyra as the next in line for the throne. He married Jocelyn Baratheon, who was not a Targaryen (good!) but was his aunt (not so good!) But Aemon died before his father did, leaving behind a daughter, Rhaenys Targaryen. Daenerys had Varys burned alive by Drogon for treason shortly before the Battle of King's Landing.

Rhaenyra goes on to have her own children, who stand to inherit her claim. To understand the drama, you need a handle on the family relationships. The Targaryen family tree is admittedly complicated—though compact thanks to the family’s penchant for incest.

Daemon Targaryen

Upon breaking the Second Siege, Daenerys took possession of the remains of their armada, roughly 200 ships. House Targaryen[1][c] of Dragonstone, known poetically as the House of the Dragon,[2] is an exiled Great House of Westeros and the former royal house of the Seven Kingdoms. House Targaryen conquered and unified the realm before it was deposed during Robert's Rebellion, where House Baratheon replaced it as the new royal house.

HBO’s first ‘Game of Thrones’ spinoff recaptures the power, grandeur of the original

Aegon's eldest natural-born son, Daemon, was made of different material. He had been a strong boy, large for his size and noted for his fighting skills when only twelve years of age. Aegon IV recognised him as his son and, to the disbelief of the entire royal court, gave him the ancestral Targaryen sword Blackfyre.

Corlys “The Sea Snake” Velaryon

Basically, expect a firsthand view of what it's like living in the Seven Kingdoms while a Targaryen sits on the Iron Throne. Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen’s son, Aegon III Targaryen, became the King after the Dance of the Dragon. Though the Blacks eventually succeeded, they lost Daemon and Rhaenyra. Daenerys leads her Khalasar to Quarth, where she visits the House of the Undying. After Drogon burns the house, she tries to leave the city but gets attacked by a Sorrowful Man.

Should they be tamed and ridden, all three dragons are now large enough to coordinate aerial assaults should the need arise. During the second siege of Meereen, all three dragons were deployed to devastating effect, even though Drogon was the only one being ridden. Daenerys intends to conquer the world and put an end to the rule of all tyrants. Jon gives up his crown to Daenerys and pledges allegiance to her as his queen.

The rules of succession in Westeros are complicated and a bit fungible. One king may decide to pass over a female heir in favor of a man, while another may upend that tradition, just one generation later. Half of the Dothraki and Unsullied troops were killed during the Great War. The remainder were forced to scatter and retreat behind the walls of Winterfell.

Ancestors who lived thousands of years prior are constantly invoked. Palatial estates are handed down, added to, and sometimes, if a war does not go well, surrendered to another house. Failing to keep up appearances at banquets, tourneys, and balls can turn into an existential crisis. In Game of Thrones, the only other surviving relics of Valyria besides Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons are the handful of Valyrian steel weapons owned by powerful lords. We learn the technology to forge those weapons was lost with the city itself. While House of the Dragon will take place well after the destruction of Valyria, it's always possible we'll see flashbacks to the city's golden age and learn more about the events that led to its demise.

What Surprised Me on My First Canada & New England Cruise

royal caribbean new england cruise

In Sydney, Nova Scotia, the temperature barely creeped above 60, while we were wearing shorts in Portland, Maine because it was 75 degrees. Looking at the forecasts in just the last few days before the cruise, the forecast shifted a lot and I wasn't sure if it would rain, be cold, or hot in any of the places. I was excited to try something new, but I wasn't prepared for how much I would love spending time in this part of the world. It was even more eye-opening for me considering I grew up in New England, so this wasn't my first foray into the area. Nearly every restaurant you go to will have a selection of local craft beers, so I recommend branching out and asking for what's local on tap.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO See New England Like a Local

Hike to the peak of Cadillac Mountain — the first place in the U.S. to see the sunrise between October and March — then feel the rush of ocean waves down in Thunder Hole. Boston is one of the oldest cities in the country, and it has the historical landmarks to prove it. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile walk filled with all of the rich New England history that you read about in books. You'll see the meetinghouses, churches and burial grounds that were integral parts of forming the United States.

GREAT CRUISES NEAR ME

Don't miss the narrow cobblestone streets of historic Old Quebec, with its inviting cafes. New England cruises offer so many ports to explore, from Bar Harbor and Portland, Maine, to Boston, Massachusetts and Baltimore, Maryland. Each port offers something a little different from the others, so you'll never run out of new adventures along the Atlantic coast.
