What Surprised Me on My First Canada & New England Cruise

royal caribbean new england cruise

In Sydney, Nova Scotia, the temperature barely creeped above 60, while we were wearing shorts in Portland, Maine because it was 75 degrees. Looking at the forecasts in just the last few days before the cruise, the forecast shifted a lot and I wasn't sure if it would rain, be cold, or hot in any of the places. I was excited to try something new, but I wasn't prepared for how much I would love spending time in this part of the world. It was even more eye-opening for me considering I grew up in New England, so this wasn't my first foray into the area. Nearly every restaurant you go to will have a selection of local craft beers, so I recommend branching out and asking for what's local on tap.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO See New England Like a Local

Hike to the peak of Cadillac Mountain — the first place in the U.S. to see the sunrise between October and March — then feel the rush of ocean waves down in Thunder Hole. Boston is one of the oldest cities in the country, and it has the historical landmarks to prove it. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile walk filled with all of the rich New England history that you read about in books. You'll see the meetinghouses, churches and burial grounds that were integral parts of forming the United States.

GREAT CRUISES NEAR ME

Don't miss the narrow cobblestone streets of historic Old Quebec, with its inviting cafes. New England cruises offer so many ports to explore, from Bar Harbor and Portland, Maine, to Boston, Massachusetts and Baltimore, Maryland. Each port offers something a little different from the others, so you'll never run out of new adventures along the Atlantic coast. The north of New England, at the tail end or beginning of your adventure, you'll find Old Quebec, a 400-year-old town that oozes European romance. Take a walking tour of this UNESCO world heritage site, making sure to take in views of the Citadel, the St. Lawrence River and the Chateau Frontenac (reputed to be the most photographed hotel in the world).

REVOLUTIONIZE YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

Or venture further up the coast for fall foliage along the windswept shores of New England and Canada. No matter which destination you choose, set sail from Cape Liberty and put adventure on the itinerary. Calling all the vacation thrill seekers, gourmet globetrotters and travel adventure aficionado. Jam out to the sounds of a junkanoo band along the historic streets of Nassau, and discover game changing thrills and ways to chill on Perfect Day at CocoCay, the award-winning private island.

The first to install a rock wall on every ship in its fleet, Royal Caribbean International emphasizes new experiences. Each and every ship is jam-packed with fun activities, restaurants, bars and lounges, shopping, entertainment and sports and spa facilities guaranteed to make each guest's vacation unforgettable. Kids ages 3 to 17 will enjoy Royal Caribbean's Adventure Ocean youth program and teen facilities, which feature age-appropriate activities and amenities in a kid-friendly environment. From historical architecture and iconic landscapes to an eclectic cultural scene, the Big Apple buzzes with excitement around the clock. And when it comes to incredible tourist attractions, there are endless options, including some of the world’s best museums, ferry rides to the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street walking tours and so much more.

All within an hour’s drive (or yellow taxi ride) from the port in Cape Liberty, New Jersey. So whether you have a few hours before boarding your cruise or a couple of days, don’t miss some of the best things to do in NYC. The ships do not have an onboard casino, but two pools (one with a retractable roof) offer relaxation during sea days. Several Oceania Cruises visit New England and Canada in 2024 and 2025, but the 670-passenger Insignia is dedicated to 11-night sailings in September and October of both years.

A one-week cruise through New England will allow you to visit all of the can't-miss cities along the coast, from Quebec to Bar Harbor and even down to Boston. Bring a bag of peanuts to a baseball game at Boston's famed Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox since 1912. If you're more of an art enthusiast than a sports fan, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum are both nearby. While I doubt we're moving to Maine anytime soon, I really could envision myself spending more time in Bar Harbor on some future summer vacation. Maybe I'm just a sucker for New England, but it had just the vibe I was looking for. Between the small town feel and fact it backed up against Acadia National Park, I really loved my time in Bar Harbor.

Bar Harbor was so pretty, I would move there if I could

Enjoy twinkling evening views from the top of the Empire State Building. Or venture 104 floors up to the One World Observatory in the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. Symphony of the Seas® is your ticket to one-of-a-kind summer adventures from Cape Liberty, New Jersey. And take on record-breaking thrills and endless ways to chill at Perfect Day at CocoCay, voted Best Private Island by Travel Weekly readers. If you love history and architecture, you’ll get your fix of both at Grand Central Terminal.

Explore interactive exhibits from land to sea and even outer space at the American Museum of Natural History. And you can’t leave NYC without visiting the MET to take in over 5,000 years of art on display. Canada and New England cruises are best known for taking mature travelers to experience vibrant autumnal foliage in multiple destinations. Pack comfortable walking shoes no matter which cruise you choose — New England cities are best experienced walking. Royal Caribbean sails to some of the most popular cities and destinations across the globe. Its growing fleet of innovative, stylish ships is relaxed, elegant and upscale with a broad appeal that attracts everyone from honeymooners to families to couples celebrating golden anniversaries.

Visit the coastal shops and restaurants along Commercial and Exchange Streets. You'll find artsy spots like Asia West and Sea Bags Maine filled with keepsakes and sundries. If you have the chance, head to the picturesque Portland Head Light, a lighthouse just a 15-minute drive away in Cape Elizabeth. If you were going on your own into Bar Harbor, you got a time to report for customs interview process, and then could go on your way. Think of it like when your luggage is ready to disembark the ship after the cruise. In speaking to crew members, they told us how lucky we were with the weather because rain has been dominant this cruise season.

In fact, Hop-on Hop-off buses visit places like the summit of Cadillac Mountain or the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax. Some of Royal Caribbean's New England cruises go as far north as Quebec and St. John's in Canada, giving you the full experience of the Atlantic coast, including the world's famous New York City. Many iconic dishes have been rubber-stamped by New York— pizza, bagels, hot dogs and cheesecake included. The 11-night Southeast Canadian Explorations itinerary aboard Windstar Cruises' 312-guest Star Pride cruises between Montreal and Boston in September and October 2024 and 2025.

Many parts of the seven-night cruise surprised me, like how gorgeous everywhere we visited is and how I wanted to spend as much time as possible on shore. If you really want the best one-and-done itinerary, try an open-jaw sailing between Quebec and New York that visits ports throughout Northeast Canada and Maine. Royal Caribbean offers Canada & New England cruises of various lengths, but you really should try to pick a longer sailing. Between hurricane season and the transition between spring, summer, and fall, it could be hot, cold, rainy, or sunny. It's very similar to how difficult it is to plan around Alaska weather.

Royal Caribbean offers Canada and New England cruises from three cities (Boston, Baltimore and Bayonne, New Jersey) in late summer and fall 2024. To truly experience the Eastern Seaboard, try the nine-night Canada & New England Cruise sailing round trip from the Cape Liberty cruise port in Bayonne aboard the 3,798-passenger Liberty of the Seas. The itinerary visits Boston; Portland, Maine; Sydney and Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Saint John, New Brunswick.

The Best Things to Do in Nassau Bahamas on a Cruise Day in Port

things to do in nassau bahamas cruise port

I’ll share top tips and recommendations so you can create unforgettable memories during your day in Nassau. Virtually adjacent to the cruise port is Festival Place, an outdoor bazaar featuring 45 vendors selling crafts, food and drinks. It's ideal for folks seeking last-minute souvenirs and gifts just before they depart aboard their ship and for arriving passengers in search of shopping close to the port. As a result, visitors can take a DIY-approach to exploring Nassau with help from the Bahamas.com website. Or, book a cruise ship excursion highlighting historic forts, Bahamian cuisine, "land and sea" programs, private island experiences and even Junkanoo-style music and dancing. Cruise ships visiting Nassau dock at the Prince George Wharf within short walking distance of Bay Street and the downtown district.

Clifton Heritage National Park

Besides beautiful marine life, you’ll also find two shipwrecks that make this place even more attractive to snorkelers and divers. Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry. Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines. Here, guests can enjoy American steaks, Bahamian seafood, and anything else in between. Though it’s also attached to a hotel, you don’t have to be a guest to eat here.

Nassau, Bahamas Shore Excursions

A day pass to Atlantis' Aquaventure water park through Carnival Cruise Line starts at $219 per adult and $150 per child. A pass usually includes access to the 141-acres of water rides and pools, Atlantis beaches, The Dig, casino, and Marina Village. Depending on the conditions of your ticket, you might be responsible for your food and drink purchases. Island beach escapes tend to offer guests a more all-inclusive experience with less of a hassle. In most cases, you will meet a cruise ship shore excursion provider at a designated spot before being guided to a boat. From there, you can enjoy your day however you may choose before returning to meet your ride back to Nassau.

6 Bahamas Cruise Tips You Need to Know Before You Go.

Nassau has established itself as a thriving cultural center and well known cruise ship stop. The destination is popular for its gorgeous white sand beaches and overall naturally beautiful landscape, which is perfect for water sports and waterside relaxation. The pristine coral reef and the possibility of exciting close encounters with marine life are some of the reasons Nassau is a great place to visit. Nassau offers a multitude of activities focused around the archipelago's beautiful blue waters and magnificent natural environment.

Take a Culinary Walk Through Nassau’s History

There are dozens of waterslides, 11+ pools, a mile long lazy river, and many more attractions. One of my favorite things to do when I only have one day to explore a new destination is a private combo tour. The benefit of private is that you can start and end on your own timeline, and adjust the day to your interests. You can relax at the beach, explore the jungle, learn about Bahamian culture, and so much more.

Nassau Straw Market

With its warm hospitality, vibrant culture, and stunning natural beauty, the Nassau Cruise Port is the perfect gateway to an unforgettable Bahamas adventure. Whether you have just a few hours or a couple of days in port, Nassau promises to leave you with wonderful memories and a desire to return again and again. You can opt to do a self-guided tour or purchase an audio guide for less than $20 per person. If you are looking to spend a leisurely afternoon in Downtown Nassau, you will be pleased to know that there several museums within walking distance of the cruise pier. An afternoon on the beach is often combined with another activity, including sea lion encounters and segway tours.

This is a popular spot to taste traditional Bahamian rum cake and buy a delicious souvenir for friends and family. Lunch is included in the excursion to Blue Lagoon as well, where you can enjoy hamburgers, chicken, veggie burgers, Caribbean rice, and a salad bar. Guests looking for a more exclusive experience at Pearl Island can reserve a VIP Cabana. Cabanas include sun chairs, an all-inclusive drink package, butler service, and lunch. The cabana also has a fully stocked cooler, complimentary towels, a power outlet, and ceiling fan.

Cruisers can do a lot of sightseeing by foot, which is why Nassau is such a popular destination. Many of the colorful and contemporary objects still use the duo's original designs. Once an open-air affair, Nassau's long-running Straw Market is located in the center of the retail action on Bay Street and also offers Bahamian gifts, crafts and souvenirs. Bay Street also features a proliferation of high-end, designer stores selling luxury goods including apparel, jewelry, cosmetics and fragrances.

Whether you are looking for something free and cheap or a day trip to your very own private island you can easily do any of these on your own. For those who are scuba certified or want to take their underwater adventure to greater depths, Nassau offers exceptional diving sites. Explore stunning walls, breathtaking underwater caves, and even incredible shipwrecks that have become vibrant marine ecosystems over time. Dive into the crystal-clear waters and witness schools of tropical fish dancing through the coral gardens as you become part of their aquatic world. Whether you choose to spend your time on Paradise Island swimming, sunbathing, or simply taking in the breathtaking scenery, don’t forget to indulge in the local cuisine. One of the main highlights of the Nassau Cruise Port is its proximity to the city’s charming downtown area.

You’ll need to book an excursion to get out here, as it’s not accessible by public transportation. Most excursions include food and drinks, so you can spend the day exploring the island and then enjoy a beachside meal. A cruiser favorite, Junkanoo Beach is within walking distance (15 minutes) from the cruise ship. Here, locals and travelers alike can enjoy the water at this free beach.

The Queen's Staircase or “The 66 Steps” was constructed by slaves in the late 1700s. It provides a direct path between Fort Fincastle to downtown Nassau. Surrounded by lush gardens it makes for a great photo op.  If you have the energy make you way up the steps. If you count along the way don't be disappointed when you only count 65.

Housed in an old, brightly colored pink building, it is a simple and small museum with an impressive story where you can learn about this dark period of Bahamian history. This is the main street in Nassau where you will find the majority of shops, restaurants, bars, and tourist attractions. It is located parallel to the Woodes Rodgers Walk, a 5-minute walk from the pier. The street is home to several historic landmarks, including Pompey Museum, Rawson Square, and Parliament Square.

Disney Cruise packing list: What to bring and what to leave at home

This is especially true for resorts that are on-property at Walt Disney World. If this is the case, your Port Arrival Time doesn't really matter because you will arrive at the port when the bus drops you off. All DCL guests, including Platinum Castaway Club members, need to select a Port Arrival Time. It is at midnight EST, regardless of where you are or what timezone you're sailing from. Our check-in printable has a checklist to ensure you’re prepared for check-in!

do i need a passport for a disney cruise or is a birth certificate sufficient?

This depends on what country your cruise ship is departing from and its destination. If you’re considering a Disney cruise, you may be wondering about the passport requirements. Security guidelines require all adult guests to show a picture I.D.

Booking a Disney Cruise without a Passport

You will need information on how you plan to pay your stateroom charges. At this point, it will ask you which members will have charging privileges. If members of your party are paying for their own charges, you can enter their card information.

How do I apply for a passport?

Pack comfortable clothes and shoes, something to swim in, and necessary identification and funds, and the rest is just gravy. You can always wash clothes on board — or even visit a shop on board or in port for forgotten essentials. The catch is you must carry these on board yourself and cannot put them into your checked bags.

If you're sailing to Alaska, you'll get a "Frozen"-themed night instead. Pack your Elsa dress, Nordic-looking sweater or Sven the reindeer outfit and join in the fun. Your Disney Cruise will likely have a themed night, though the theme will depend on where you're sailing.

We simply looked for a photo of us from vacation without a crazy background, where we were looking at the camera straight-on. This doesn't have to be a glamour shot – it simply has to show what you look like, without a face mask or sunglasses, looking directly at the camera. If you're cruising between the United States and the Caribbean, including Castaway Cay, you can use your Passport or Passport Card.

If you’ve paid for Disney transfers to/from a hotel or airport, make sure that the appropriate button is clicked on. As long as you follow these guidelines, you’ll find that a selfie or a child’s school photo often works. There are many great activities, whether you have a few hours, half a day, a full day, or multiple days. If you arrive before your Port Arrival Time, ask the staff if they'll let you arrive early. If they're running early that day they might, but they may also tell you that you have to come back later. Some people even have their phone and computer in front of them to see what's faster.

The Cruise Contract is the official document that outlines the rights and responsibilities of both you and DCL related to your cruise. There are different versions for cruises in different locations. You’ll have the opportunity to print the contract or have an electronic version of it sent to your email address. You’ll have a wonderful time on the ship, regardless of what time you board. You’re less likely to have problems if there is only one DCL ship opening its check-in on a particular date, but there’s not much you can personally do about this.

Read on to discover the key takeaways for a hassle-free Disney Cruise. Passport renewal is an important step to ensure that your travel documents are up to date. It is recommended to renew your passport at least six months before it expires. This will give you enough time to process the renewal and receive your new passport before your Disney cruise.

This is because a Disney Cruise Line cast member has to check the photos you submitted (a real human, from what we understand), and it's a long process. There is a size limit to how large the photo can be (minimum and maximum size). Be sure that it meets these requirements before you upload it.

But you can certainly wait a day – and you’re much less likely to have computer problems if you wait to check in until mid-day. If you’re going on a Disney Cruise Line sailing, you’ll be checking in for your cruise online. An important note is that while it says you're set to sail, your online check-in may still show as “Pending Review“.

Royal Caribbean Cruises also require a valid passport for travel. We always recommend having a passport if you’re going to cruise, but on some itineraries you can travel without one and still have the trip of a lifetime. If you don’t have a passport, remember to double check passport requirements carefully so you know exactly which documents to add to your cruise packing checklist. And if you’re looking for how to book those tickets – we’ve got you covered on the best places to book a Disney cruise. What if the only vacation photo you were able to take was your cruise sailing away while you watch from the pier?

This should be a recent colour photo of you facing forward, from the shoulders up, with no filters. Your face should be fully and clearly visible; please remove eyewear that prevents your eyes from being seen and any items on top of your head. Always prioritize safety and compliance with local regulations when engaging in cruise activities at various ports of call. Guests are responsible for obtaining proper documentation to board the ship. Government passport requirements continue to change; therefore, we strongly encourage Guests of all ages to have a valid U.S. passport for all cruises. Having a passport allows you to always be prepared to travel wherever you wish, and offers an added measure of security when you're traveling. For a Cruise Getaway within the United States, passengers have the option to embark on a domestic Disney cruise without the need for a passport.

Live From The 80s Cruise: Why A Music Theme Cruise is the Best Party at Sea

80's cruise

Throwing the devil horns -- a habit of '80s heavy metal bands -- was also common. It's a little weird at first to walk onto a ship and see everyone within your same demographic. The 80s Cruise is almost entirely made up of passengers ages 40 to that means no kids, no millennials, no Greatest Generation.

Music is everywhere.

80's cruise

Studio albums include Especially for You, Green Thoughts, 11, A Date with The Smithereens, and 2011. Among their biggest hits are the rock radio staples “Blood and Roses,” “Only a Memory,” “Behind the Wall of Sleep,” and “A Girl Like You.” The Smithereens’ most recent album, COVERS, features 22 of the bands favorite songs first recorded by other artists. With his dynamic dancing and smooth yet gutsy vocals, Morris Day played an essential role in the development of the Twin City dance/club sound of the 1980s. A founding member of Prince’s band, The Time, in 1981, he remained with the group until 1984 when he launched his solo career.

About the Ship

In 2017 Autograph released a new full-length Album on Megadeth's David Ellefson's EMP Label Group hitting #21 on the Billboard Classic Rock Sales Chart as well as placing 2 new singles on the top 10 Hard Rock Media base Radio Chart. The band delivers an undeniably bombastic live performance and was featured on the USA Today news website. The timeless iconic classic rock anthem Top 40 hit single “Turn Up the Radio” continues to receive constant and permanent radio airplay on all major rock radio stations around the world as the lineup is praised by the fans and the critics for their powerful live performances. Pop those collars, unleash the shoulder pads, let your hair reach for the skies, and slip into the hottest acid-washed jeans because The 80s Cruise is about to set sail! This is the ultimate celebration of 80s music and culture on an All-Inclusive, 7-day luxury cruise!

All-Inclusive 80s Party of a Lifetime!

We set sail from San Pedro, CA September 13rd - 16th, 2024 and stopping at Ensenada, MX. It will be 3-day weekend adventure like never before aboard Royal Caribbean’s spectacular Navigator of the Seas. Travis brings an unsurpassed energy level to any dance floor by mixing 80s tunes in his custom DJ booth. He is so into the 80s he even drives the ambulance from Cannonball Run. The album was previewed by the #14 UK hit single "Black Man Ray," which also enjoyed critical acclaim and international success.

Step onboard 5-days nightly theme parties, celeb interaction, plus all out 90s parties, and events and activities. Gin Blossoms, Everclear, Lit, Color Me Bad, Lisa Loeb, Fastball C+C Music Factory, Jesus Jones, Digital Underground, and Sophie B. Hawkins for over 25 concerts and live performances! The Freshest 90s Party is Hosted by Downtown Julie Brown, Matt Pinfield, and Lisa Loeb.

Non-Stop 80s Action

The band was signed to Virgin Records and recorded their debut album, Difficult Shapes & Passive Rhythms, Some People Think It's Fun To Entertain, which was released in December 1982. A re-release of "African & White" became China Crisis' first hit in the United Kingdom, reaching #45 in the UK Singles Chart. The follow-up single, "Christian," made UK #12 in early 1983 and brought them to national prominence. Just as he hooked audiences in the 80s as one of MTV’s original VJs (video jockey), Alan Hunter is sure to captivate guests of The 80s Cruise from behind the mic on the highly anticipated voyage at sea. Since leaving MTV in 1987, our cruise emcee dabbled in independent film for several years, earning an Academy Award nomination in 2003 for producing the short film Johnny Flynton, along with features Dreamland, Best Worst Movie and Lifted.

The members originated from the towns of Shrewsbury and Wellington in central England and took their name from a Vulcan high priestess in the classic Star Trek episode Amok Time. Their debut single and first hit was the 1987 release Heart and Soul. Billboard charts, reaching #4, a feat it repeated in the UK Singles Chart some months later. The same year, the band had their biggest hit with the ballad, “China in Your Hand,” which spent five weeks at Number One in the UK chart, and also claimed the top slot in several European countries, although oddly the song made little impact on the U.S. Changes in management led to lineup adjustments, but the original trio reunited in 1990 for ‘Monsters Under The Bed.’ The album spawned successful singles in Canada and gained some US exposure through TV shows and movie soundtracks. The band’s recent reunion has brought them back on tour, with a Best of album and DVD released by Warner in Canada.

Mark Goodman

He enjoyed 14 weeks in the billboard dance chart top 40 in 2013 with his collaboration with Cedric Gervais on a new version of “Things Can Only Get Better.” Howard continues to operate at the forefront of music technology in both his live shows and productions. It was in 1983 that Howard Jones first burst upon the contemporary music scene with his very English songwriting, pioneering synthesizers and thought-provoking lyrics. Australian psych-rock guitar masters The Church enter their fifth decade of making music with all the fierce creative energy of their early years. With new members introduced, the band are deep into recording the band’s 25th studio album, 40 years after their formation. In The Jam, Bruce Foxten and drummer Rick Buckler were the driving force, power and rhythm section behind singer, guitarist, and songwriter Paul Weller. Bruce’s versatility is evident, taking lead vocals on “David Watts” (The Kinks) and writing “News Of The World”, which to this day appears as the theme to the BBC’s Mock the Week show and has introduced his work to a new generation of fans.

He released Christmas Rappin’, which sold over 400,000 copies and became an annual classic. Its gold follow-up, The Breaks, helped ignite an international “rap attack,” solidifying the new art form. He released 10 albums over 11 years and his early projects made him an instant success at home and across Europe. Pioneering records like Party Time introduced the fusion of rap and go-go. Hit songs like “8 Million Stories”, “AJ”, and “Basketball” were simply ahead of their time, and still get spins by DJs today. Fellow rap legend Nas debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts with a cover of Kurtis’ “If I Ruled the World” in 1997.
